Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is a method that uses the near-infrared light (~780-2500 nm) to research a variety of domains,  functional neuroimaging. Near IR light can penetrate deeply into a sample, being very useful in probing bulk material with little or no sample preparation.
